Elder Larry Barbee

Larry Barbee was born June 28, 1952 to Lonnie Mae and Charlie Frank Barbee. He has two beautiful daughters, Vatisha Evans-Barken and Lakesha Barbee-Allen. He was one of the first to graduate from Haywood County integrated school in 1971. He joined the U.S. Army in 1971, where he was stationed in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and in Germany until 1975. After completing his service in the army, he joined the Tennessee National Guard and became full-time in 1986. Over the years, he held numerous positions. In November 2000, he retired with 29 years of service.
In 1972, while in the military, Elder Barbee worked with H&R Block Tax Preparation Services Company, which led him to becoming a business owner in the tax and accounting industry. He is the proud owner of Barbee Bookkeeping & Tax Service in Brownsville, Tennessee. He has been a business entrepreneur for more than 45 years in the tax and accounting industry.
Elder Barbee is proud of his academic achievements, particularly his Bachelor’s in Accounting/Office Management and Ph.D. in Counseling/Theology/Ministry.
He held many offices in community organizations: Jonah President for 15 years, West TN Legal Service Chairman for 17 years, Board Member of The Tennessee Alliance Legal Service, Treasurer for Haywood County Ministerial Alliance, Financial Officer of Tyrone Wagner Austin Post 282 American Legion from 2015 to present, a life member of the NAACP and serves as 1st Vice President, and member of the Haywood County Democratic Party. He is a community advocate and veteran spokesman.
Elder Barbee has been a gospel preacher for many years and has been a devoted member of the St. James COGIC since 1986. He has served in several areas in various churches, including the St. James COGIC. He is the Assistant to the Pastor at St. James COGIC and serves as the St. James Church Facility General Manager. He says he loves his St. James Family, and his favorite degrees are: SBG (Saved By Grace) and HGF/FB (Holy Ghost Filled and Fire Baptized).
